Jim McLaughlin

Before co-founding Settled Housing Solutions, Jim held several senior positions in the housing sector. His experience encompasses housing benefits, housing advice, housing supply and strategy. His most recent role was as project manager responsible for delivering private sector housing options in a large North London borough. His comprehensive knowledge and experience of welfare benefits and housing legislation are invaluable in the process of setting up successful housing options that meet the objectives of the local authority as well as the commercial objectives of the private sector.

"Success in a multi-stakeholder housing project depends not only upon understanding the motivations of all parties but also the barriers which may prevent them delivering."

His frontline experience in dealing with clients has given him great insight into the issues facing both low income households as well as those of the landlords and letting agents who house them. In particular, tenants facing restricted choices in accommodation due to lack of financial means which often results in families ending up in badly managed poor quality accommodation or properties that are overcrowded.

Delivering private sector housing options requires the cooperation, resources and expertise of different stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. Jim's skills as a facilitator are crucial to ensuring all stakeholders deliver their own responsibilities and understand the impact any failure may have on other areas of the project. His expert knowledge of housing and welfare benefits legislation has enabled him to design solutions to obstacles that may otherwise have prevented stakeholders delivering.

Jim is passionate about delivering quality services that can provide better outcomes for all stakeholders and, most importantly, offer a better future for service users.
